The Monkey and the Crocodile
The story of "The Monkey and the Crocodile" is one of the most popular and well-known stories from the Panchatantra. It goes like this:
Once upon a time, there was a monkey who lived on a tree near a river. He was very happy and contented with his life in the forest. One day, a crocodile swam up to the tree and struck up a conversation with the monkey. The crocodile was very friendly and soon the two became good friends.
One day, the crocodile invited the monkey to his home for a feast. The monkey happily accepted the invitation and hopped on the crocodile's back for the ride. Halfway through the journey, the crocodile revealed his true intentions to the monkey - he wanted to eat the monkey's heart as his wife had a craving for it.
The clever monkey, realizing the danger he was in, quickly came up with a plan. He told the crocodile that he had left his heart back on the tree and that they needed to go back and get it. The foolish crocodile believed the monkey's story and turned back towards the tree. As soon as they reached the shore, the monkey jumped off the crocodile's back and climbed up the tree, thus escaping from the jaws of the crocodile.
The moral of the story is that one should always be careful while making friends and trust only after verifying the person's true intentions. The story also highlights the importance of intelligence and quick thinking in dangerous situations.
